A Summary of the Health Care Crisis in Song

Paul Hipp is a singer/songwriter/actor, who recently put out this song about health care in America. After pumping your fist to "Born in the USA," do the same to "We're Number 37." Enjoy.

  1. First of all...France? Really?
Anyway, is Hipp trying to argue that we might be number 1 if we pass the new healthcare legislature? I feel that it would be really hard to shoot for number 1 when the economy is in such a slump. And if healthcare improves, who's to say we'll make it to the top of the WHO charts? The problem with such an egotistical country is that we panic when we know we're not numero uno. So what if we're number 4 or even number 34? If we're making an improvement, at least...wouldn't that be a good thing? This song, yet again, shows society's need to be first at everything. Yet we only seem to care about the things we're already winning...and we don't seem to focus enough on the things that cause us to struggle. It's not just healthcare. It's education. It's employment. It's economics, in general. Shouldn't we focus more on being a well-rounded country rather than excelling in a limited amount of fields?

  2. I think what he is attacking are the people who ignorantly state that we are number 1 and that we shouldn't change anything. I agree that improvement is what we need to strive for; the question is what structural changes do we need to make in order to improve?
